Ameille Warner is a long-time Saguache County resident with a strong background in operations, marketing, and business development. As the Development Director for ScSEED, Ameille oversees the day-to-day execution and management of the organization's strategic plan, projects, and partnerships. With a deep commitment to fostering sustainable community development in the San Luis Valley, Ame leads efforts to build strong collaborations and secure resources that ensure ScSEED's continued growth and success. Treasurer

Whitney serves as the Treasurer for ScSEED, bringing a wealth of experience in financial management and research to the role. With a strong background in science, data analysis, and organizational leadership, Whitney ensures the responsible stewardship of ScSEED's financial resources. Her academic achievements, combined with her dedication to fostering sustainable community development, make her an invaluable asset to the team. Whitney is committed to maintaining transparency and integrity in all financial operations as ScSEED continues its mission to support sustainable initiatives in the San Luis Valley.

Max Gibson

Max Gibson

Board Chair

Max grew up camping in Saguache County, and has lived in the Town of Saguache since 2020. He currently works at the San Luis Valley Local Foods Coalition, and has previously worked on healthy community design and food system planning in the Front Range, and humanitarian response in East Africa and the Middle East, leading wilderness trips across the Rockies, and as an EMT.

Max is an avid cook and fermenter, and can be found hiking, skiing, climbing and mountain biking in the San Juans.

Barry Van Sant

Barry Van Sant

Board Member at Large

Since 2006, Barry has been focused on community and business development in Saguache County. In 2009 he joined a small group of residents to re-establish the Saguache Chamber of Commerce, serving on the Board for 10 years and as president from 2017 to 2021. In 2018 he established the Saguache Groundwater Community Group when high sub water threatened the Town of Saguache, and in 2019 he was instrumental in bringing transit services to Saguache, the KV, and Town of Center. Working with the Chaffee Shuttle he brought the Eagle Shuttle to the San Luis Valley. He was also instrumental in establishing the West SLV Transit Committee, as acting chair, until it dissolved in 2020. He continues to participate as a contributor to the SLV Transit Council today. Barry’s primary focus now is on the Highway 285 Streetscaping Project. The goal of this effort is to bring additional safety, economic growth, and beautification to the highway running through the Town of Saguache.

Laura Abeyta

Vice Chair

Laura Abeyta serves as Vice Chair for ScSEED, bringing deep-rooted community ties and a passion for leadership to the organization. A native of Saguache, Colorado, Laura has been actively involved in numerous local initiatives, including the Mountain Valley District Accountability Committee, HEART of Saguache/KV, Saguache County Cares, and the Historic Preservation Commission. She is also a dedicated 9Health Fair volunteer and has coached Peewee basketball, further demonstrating her commitment to community development.

Laura holds a double Master’s degree from the University of Phoenix, with an MBA and a Master of Healthcare Administration, along with a minor in Sustainability Management. Her work is driven by a desire to mentor future leaders and positively impact lives, with a focus on fostering a new generation of changemakers dedicated to creating a better world.

Liza served ScSEED from 1999 thru 2022. We look forward o working with her in her new position as Sagucahe County Commissioner.
