Since 2006, Barry has been focused on community and business development in Saguache County. In 2009 he joined a small group of residents to re-establish the Saguache Chamber of Commerce, serving on the Board for 10 years and as president from 2017 to 2021. In 2018 he established the Saguache Groundwater Community Group when high sub water threatened the Town of Saguache, and in 2019 he was instrumental in bringing transit services to Saguache, the KV, and Town of Center. Working with the Chaffee Shuttle he brought the Eagle Shuttle to the San Luis Valley. He was also instrumental in establishing the West SLV Transit Committee, as acting chair, until it dissolved in 2020. He continues to participate as a contributor to the SLV Transit Council today. Barry’s primary focus now is on the Highway 285 Streetscaping Project. The goal of this effort is to bring additional safety, economic growth, and beautification to the highway running through the Town of Saguache.
