OUR ROOTS
Since 1999, ScSEED (Saguache County Sustainable Environment & Economic Development) has sponsored many community organizations and efforts to create a better life in Saguache County. From planning strategies, facilitating community meetings, surveys and data collecting, writing grants, building partnerships and networking across the Valley and beyond, hosting the Wild & Scenic Film Festival, publishing local assessments and historic brochures, managing downtown revitalization projects, environmental clean-up and preservation, healthy living efforts, youth education and recreation, economic development programs encouraging local shopping, recording and preserving rural lifestyles for posterity.

Through sustainable gardening practices and partnerships with local organizations, the garden provides fresh produce for food banks, seniors, and community members while helping build a more resilient and self-sufficient Crestone community.

Crestone Energy Fair
A volunteer-driven organization that promotes sustainability, education, and community resilience. Through workshops, demonstrations, and hands-on learning opportunities, the organization shares practical knowledge about renewable energy, natural building, land stewardship, and regenerative living while fostering community connection and environmental stewardship.

Crestone Artists
Supporting local artists, fostering creative collaboration, and enriching community life through the arts. Through exhibitions, studio tours, educational programs, and community events, the organization provides opportunities for artists to develop and share their work while strengthening the vibrant creative culture of the Crestone area.

Crestone Poetry Festival
Celebrating the power of poetry to inspire connection, creativity, and community. Through readings, workshops, open mic events, and educational programs, the festival brings together poets and audiences from across the region to share diverse voices, foster artistic expression, and deepen appreciation for the spoken and written word.

Fall Harvest Festival
The Fall Harvest Festival celebrates the agricultural heritage, local food traditions, and community spirit of the San Luis Valley. Hosted by the SLV Seed Exchange in Antonito each fall, the festival brings together farmers, gardeners, artisans, and community members to share seeds, knowledge, food, and traditions while promoting regional food resilience and sustainable agriculture.
