ScSEED (Saguache County Sustainable Environment & Economic Development), is a nonprofit community and economic development organization serving Saguache County in Colorado’s San Luis Valley. Founded in 1999, ScSEED brings residents, businesses, local governments, and community organizations together to strengthen the local economy, support community-led projects, protect the county’s rural character and environment, and expand opportunities for the people who live and work here.
OUR ROOTS
ScSEED’s roots reach back to 1997, when a diverse group of Saguache County residents began coming together to envision a sustainable future grounded in local strengths, community connection, and stewardship of the region’s rural character. Their efforts led to the formal founding of ScSEED in 1999.
Since then, ScSEED has helped turn community priorities into action through planning, public engagement, grant development, local business initiatives, downtown revitalization, environmental projects, historic preservation, and support for community organizations. Its work has also promoted healthy living, expanded educational and recreational opportunities for youth, and recorded and preserved the rural lifestyles, traditions, and stories that make Saguache County unique.
